DIVING
You will learn to snorkel, gaining a basic understanding of the underwater world including understanding the effects being underwater has on your body. You will learn about the ocean environments, terrain, currents and weather. What to consider when choosing a dive site, how to use and care for your snorkeling equipment, breathing techniques and dive safety.

GARDENS
You will learn how to set up a garden at your home. You will learn how to sow seeds, prepare the ground, transplant plants into the ground, plant spacing, watering and maintenance, harvesting and saving seeds. You will also learn how to use vegetables from your garden to produce kai for your whanau. We will support all of our students to have a garden at their homes.

FISHING
You will learn about what is in your tackle box, how to rig a line, baiting your hook, types of hooks, differences between boat and rock fishing, identifying fish species, how to fillet a fish, learning about daily catch limits in specific regions and legal sizes. You will put all of this into practice when we go fishing.

HUNTING AND KAI GATHERING
You will learn how to hunt from an experienced hunter, how to get your gun license, permits to hunt and dog training tests.

TE TIRITI O WAITANGI ME HE WHAKAPUTANGA
You will learn the history of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and He Whakaputanga.

PREPARE FOR NATURAL DISASTERS
You will learn about different natural disasters and how your whanau can be prepared for when these take place. You will create a plan for your household and learn about supplies that you can invest in for your emergency kit.

RONGOA AND MEDICINAL PLANTS
You will learn how to identify medicinal plants and what they are used for correctly. You will learn how to make rongoa and home remedies.

RARANGA WEAVING
You will learn the kaupapa and matauranga around harakeke and how to weave.

LEARNING TO SWIM
You will have coached swimming lesson to build your confidence in the water.

BUILDING AND NAVIGATION
You will learn basic orienteering, map reading, using a compass, shelter and raft building and learning knots with ropes.

COOKING
You will learn how to prepare different meals and feed your whanau with food that you have grown or gathered. You will learn how to preserve food and how to make traditional maori kai such as hangi.

FIRST AID
You will gain a first aid certificate and you will know what is in your first aid kit and how to use it.

CAR MAINTENANCE
You will learn basic car maintenance including how to change a tyre and put air in them, checking oil levels, knowing when to get a service and how to jumpstart your car.

FARM AND WHARE UKU
You will visit a whare uku and a farm. You will learn about what it takes to work on a farm and what farmers do every day. You will learn about the process and experiences of building and living in a whare uku.

UNDERSTANDING FIRES
You will learn the fundamentals of a fire, fire bans, different techniques on how to start a fire and cooking on an open fire.

SEWING AND CROCHET
You will learn how to set up a sewing machine, basic hand sewing techniques, working with fabric patterns and what is in your sewing kit. You will learn how to sew a sweatshirt and how to crochet a beanie.
